What is Duel Commander?

Duel Commander is a 1v1 competitive variant of the Commander format with its own rules and ban list. It’s a highly competitive format where skill, deck-building, and strategy are key.

For full details, visit the official website: MTGDC.info

Most Important Differences from Regular Commander

  1. It’s 1v1, not multiplayer.

  2. Life total is 20 instead of 40.

  3. Swiss rounds (up to 4 with all 12 players).

  4. Best-of-3 matches (No sideboards, but you can swap commanders between games 2 and 3 of a round).

  5. Separate ban list (including no Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, and many others).

  6. Decklists required—submit via email before the event.

Deck List Submission

An up-to-date deck list must be submitted before the event starts. Send it to curiousgamesnc@gmail.com with your name clearly attached.

Banlist Information

Duel Commander has a separate ban list from multiplayer Commander. Certain cards are either banned entirely or banned as a commander only.

For the most up-to-date ban list, visit: MTGDC.info Banned List

Tournament Structure

  • Swiss Rounds: Up to 4 rounds based on player count.

  • Best-of-3 Matches: No single-game eliminations.

  • Commander Swap Rule: While there are no sideboards, you may swap your commander for another legal commander within your deck in game 2 and/or 3 of the same round.
