As our business grows and adapts, we’re announcing a significant shift in our trade-in policy starting this week: Curiosity Video Games and More will no longer be purchasing gaming consoles for cash or store credit. Rest assured, this change only applies to consoles. We’re still actively buying video games, cards, and select accessories (like controllers) as usual!
This decision stems from a logistical need to streamline our operations and focus on offering high-quality, unique consoles for our customers. By pausing console trade-ins, we’ll be able to ensure that every console on our shelves meets the highest standards. We want to maintain a well-curated selection, emphasizing rare finds and quality systems rather than volume.
Additionally, with the growing trend toward digital gaming, we’ve seen an increase in confusion among customers who believe digital purchases on a console add value when, unfortunately, they do not. In an attempt to resolve this, we experimented with requiring a set of physical games for any console trade-ins, but this approach also proved confusing and didn’t achieve the clarity we hoped for.
While our official policy going forward is that we no longer purchase consoles, this doesn’t mean we won’t consider consoles in exceptional condition. However, this policy change simplifies things for everyone: if you call asking for a trade-in price for a console, the standard answer will be that we buy games, not consoles. If you have a console in excellent condition that you’d like us to consider, it must be dropped off at the store to go through a rigorous testing process before we can make any decisions.
Our goal is to better serve collectors and gaming enthusiasts by offering a refined selection of consoles and accessories, while focusing our trade-ins on games and accessories that enhance everyone’s gaming experience.
We understand this is a major change, but it’s essential for us to adapt and offer a better experience. As market values shift, some games now even hold more trade-in value than the consoles themselves, and this decision helps us prioritize high-value items for you.
Please note that no policy is ever set in stone—we reserve the right to adjust this policy in the future or run occasional specials where we may be more open to accepting certain consoles.
